Lowongan CPNS has posted a new item, '#LOKER Red Langur Behaviour Field Intern
Based In Palangkaraya'

Red Langur Behaviour Field InternHiring Organization:Orangutan Tropical Peatland
Research Project Date Posted:2013-01-19 Position Description:See full
description and application material hereThe Sabangau Red Langur Research
Project has been running since 2009 within OuTropa s research. We are able to
study between one and three groups of red langurs at close quarters and the data
set complied is growing to be a fantastic resource with much insight. You will
be working closely with experienced local researchers monitoring the behavioural
ecology of habituated and non-habituated red langur groups, both groups will
increase our knowledge of ranging, demography, behaviour and inter-group
interactions. As the Red Langur intern, you will regularly be getting up before
dawn on following days, to reach the location of the monkeysa sleeping tree,
following the group recording extensive behavioural data, hopefully until their
next sleeping tree at dusk. On searching days, you will enter the forest at dawn
and search as part of a team for targeted red langur groups to collect similar
data. Full training of data collection methods and use of GPS units will be
provided in the field. As a dynamic and growing conservation organisation, we
offer internships with specific roles working on our field research projects.
Interns are required for periods of six months (absolute minimum four months)
and will be based in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan and at the Setia Alam
base cdan in the Natural Laboratory of Peat-swdan Forest; a 50,000 hectare area
of forest where we conduct our research. The base cdan is well established with
over 80 km of forest transects and many long-term forest plots. Interns will
either work on a number of different projects or be assigned specific projects
depending on experience, skills and our requirements. Interns may also be
expected to assist with project logistics, reporting and with our volunteer
programme, as required. Qualifications/Experience:Please note: The Indonesian
Research Permit application process is lengthy and complicated. It generally
takes a minimum of two months to get successful applicants out to Indonesia, so
please factor this is when considering your availability.Interns must be
available for a minimum of four months and preferably for six months. At the end
of six months there may be the opportunity to stay for longer. Applicants must
be physically fit and able to handle the challenges of field work, including
working long days with very early starts, uneven and flooded terrain, insect
pests, tropical weather conditions and basic living conditions. We are a small
team working in a remote region based in a cdan with limited privacy; all rooms
are shared. Indonesia is a developing country and delays, complicated
bureaucratic procedures and last-minute changes of plan are an unavoidable part
of working here. Interns must therefore be good team-players, flexible, patient
and willing to assist in all aspects of the project. Applicants should complete
an application form and supply a recent CV. Short-listed candidates will then be
invited for interview. Relevant experience for the internship(s) you are
applying for is preferred, although not essential if suitable skills are
identified. The current OuTrop intern rate is N 360/month, which includes food
and board at camp, in-country visa and associated costs, local field staff,
accommodation plus internet at the project house in Palangka Raya, and a
conservation fee to support the activities of the CIMTROP Community Patrol Team.
